Being the Exception ….

The past few days have been a whirlwind a good one but a whirlwind!! Edges snatched a tiny bit by all the confirmation sent through friends and angels in disguise. Life is filed with swift transition is something my grandma and my great grandmother talked about often. I heard them at Sunday dinner sharing this sentiment often across the dinner table…. who knew those dinner table moments would soon become the soundtrack of my life and those around me as an adult…… Life my friends is filled with SWIFT, ABRUPT, UNEXPECTED, UNIVITED TRANSITION…and it does not seem to be letting up? On some days I welcome the change understanding that GOD makes no mistakes and that even in SWIFT times there’s some good in it, other days not so much. I have questions …. I cry, I hurt, and I ask WHY. Understanding that everything won’t always make sense I still find myself trying to make it make sense where and when possible.

Recently, I got caught up in one of those moments of WHY… Why do people do this? and why did that have to happen this way? Why do folks feel like this? Etc.…. At some point I murmured one of those “I wonder why” moments aloud in the presence of an angel in disguise. This Angel got me together with a simple reminder from on high …. “You are the Exception , not the Rule”……while I understood what I heard in true Rochonda Rene’ fashion , But still why ….The Angel repeated the statement but this time with a bit more authority and specific to me “You are the Exception ,not the Rule Rochonda” and because of that you don’t need to know why and you won’t ever be able to comprehend why because that would only make sense if you were the rule. Once you accept your position as the exception then and only then will it make sense…. No words for a rebuttal I accepted it and the louder it became to me that This was the life message that I had been ignoring all along. It was not by coincidence that just days prior me and my best friend were talking about the weight and responsibility that comes with being chosen, being the ONE and truly being the EXCEPTION. It is also no coincidence that my life has been filled with moments where the RULES DID NOT APPLY. As I reflected on this, I realized that I am NOT the only ONE that is the EXCEPTION but so are many of you!!!

Those that can relate to being different, the odd one out, the one who has been chosen to lead, care, nurture, guide, teach, beat the clock, set the stage, and fill the gap in many areas of life this message is for you. ACCEPT IT, EMBRACE IT and LIVE in the light of being the exception. I know it does not always feel good, it isn’t fun and sometimes you get downright tired and want to quit. It would be so much easier to hand it over to someone else, but you can’t because you were designed this way for a reason much bigger than you. Ever received a gift in your perfect size and as a kind gesture attempted to give that gift to someone else and it did not FIT? That’s what you do here when you reject the status of being the exception. Nothing looks good when it does not fit. You are uncomfortable the folks around you are also!! But that’s a story for another day.

Understand this, you my friend are equipped with the type of blood that does not boil over when it gets heated, you find strength even in your weak places but most importantly you clear the way for everyone that comes after you. Your likeness and posture become the standard for onlookers and because of it, families, and strangers both near and far are better humans. This place is not easy but if we are honest, it was never supposed to be! You were chosen because you have proven that you can do hard things. You have no FOLD in you …. never forget that! ( The real ones know what I mean)

As you prepare to close out the week, consider this ……Folks are always looking for the EXCEPTION to the rule…. Your position will always have a purpose and will never lose its power!
